Charities to benefit from RGB team's banger rally success

A team from RGB Building Supplies successfully completed September's Pavestone Rally and has raised a fantastic £5,600, which will be split between Teenage Cancer Trust, Variety and The Rainy Day Trust.

Lee Kift, RGB Barnstaple's Branch Manager; Ash Lewis who works in Internal Sales, and Ian Roulstone, Counter Sales, were joined by Nathan Thompson from RGB's Okehampton branch to complete the 1,500 mile trip from Reims in northern France to Italy's Lake Como in a 1999 Volvo V70, which they had decorated to look like the Greased Lightning car from the film Grease.

The rally, organised by natural stone paving company Pavestone, saw teams from across the construction industry leave Reims on Thursday 5th September. They then drove through Stuttgart, Salzburg and Venice, before arriving in Lake Como on Sunday 8th September.

Throughout the rally, the RGB team undertook a series of fun challenges including asking as many strangers as possible to do the conga, running through a vineyard, getting  a photo of the team at the bottom of a waterfall, high fiving 10 people and attempting the Bavarian bum slap dance.

In addition, the team had to complete a number of carpool karaoke performances and were given a fancy dress theme each day. Day 1 saw the team dress as the T-Birds to match the design of the car, then on day 2, to fit in with the London Underground theme, team RGB were joined by three inflatable dolls to dress as Seven Sisters tube station. Day 3 was superheroes, and the final rally day had a back from the dead theme, which saw Lee, Ash, Ian and Nathan dressing as Freddie Mercury, Charlie Chaplin, Steve Irwin and Elvis Presley to celebrate some of their favourite people who have sadly passed.

During an awards ceremony at the end of the trip, the RGB team was awarded trophies for the Best Fundraising Effort, Best Dressed Team – overall and Best Dressed Team – day 2. They also received £500 towards their fundraising for being the Best Carpool Karaoke Team.

Lee Kift commented:

"In total, the 2019 Pavestone Rally raised an amazing £133,000 for three extremely worthwhile charities and we're delighted to have contributed. There was a great camaraderie between all the teams and it was an unforgettable trip for all of us, although we didn't enjoy the 22 hour drive home!

"We'd like to say a huge thank you to our families, friends, colleagues and RGB customers and suppliers who donated, helping us beat our fundraising target. Every penny is very much appreciated."
