Community Fund opens up for voting!
For our latest Well Built Community Fund call out, we gave groups, charities and schools from across the region the chance to win a stunning kitchen worth £9,700. The kitchen was used by our sister company The Room Works at the recent Great Food & Drink Show at Westpoint, and we're delighted it will now go on to make a difference to a community focused organisation.
All the entries have been whittled down to the final 10 and it's now down to the public to decide who receives the kitchen.
The finalists are:
Bodmin District Guides' headquarters are used by members aged between 5 and 18, as well as childminders and community groups. The current kitchen is not fit for purpose, so the Guides would like to replace it to enable it to be used by everyone.
British Hen Welfare Trust located in South Molton is building the first Hen Welfare and Education Centre and would like to install the kitchen for use by visiting members of the public and staff.
Eagle Community, a Barnstaple based charity, provides accommodation for men in crisis, specialising in the rehabilitation of vulnerable male adults. It would like to upgrade the outdated kitchen which is used for training and by the men to prepare meals.
Regen Link, based in Ilfracombe, provides free support and services to reduce the social isolation of the elderly. The charity would use the kitchen to set up cooking and shared lunch sessions.
Reminiscence Learning, which runs community sessions for the elderly in Wellington would like to use the kitchen to provide additional day centre services.
Tedburn St Mary School's current kitchen was installed many years ago and forms part of the old Headteacher's house. The Exeter school would like to use the kitchen to do more cooking with the pupils and teach them about keeping the area in a clean and tidy condition.
The Ashburton branch of the Royal British Legion operates out of an old military Nissen hut, which is also used by a number of groups in the area. The charity is organising events to mark 100 years since the end of World War I and would like to replace its outdated kitchen for the benefit of the local community.
The Helston Community Arts Centre is there for the benefit of the local community and for the past few years, the organisation that runs the centre has been renovating it. The group would like to install the kitchen to help it hold events to raise funds towards the centre's ongoing upkeep.
The new Ilfracombe Water Sports Centre is going to be something brand new for the local area and the groups that will be using the centre would like to use the kitchen in the café area.
Wellington Squash and Racketball Club would like to install the kitchen at is base for use by the team and for functions that take place throughout the year.
The local community can vote by visiting our Facebook page and liking the photo that represents the group they would like to win in the Community Fund album; the album will be pinned to the top of the page. Alternatively, votes can be cast by emailing RGB@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the group being voted for in the subject line. Only one vote per person via each method of voting will be counted.
The vote will take place between Monday 8th October and midday on Monday 22nd October. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted.
We wish all finalists the very best of luck.
