The latest Community Fund finalists are chosen

As part of our Well Built Community Fund programme, we recently called out to groups, schools and charities inviting those who would like to receive £1,000 to spend on decorating supplies at their local RGB branch to get in contact.

All the entries have been whittled down to the final three and it's now down to the public to decide who receives the donation.

Crediton Methodist Church

The community rooms in the church are used six days a week by a wide variety of local groups, including two choirs, a toddlers group, youth cafe, dancing school, young carers group, a knit & natter group and many others. Due to refurbishments, all activities are being held in the large hall, which is also regularly used for birthday parties and charity coffee mornings. The community hall is in desperate need of decoration and, if chosen as the Community Fund winner, the Crediton Methodist Church's Property Team will use the donation to ensure the hall can continue to be a hub for local people.

Path Torbay

The latest Community Fund finalists are chosen

Path Torbay runs a food and support centre to help people in the Torbay area who are homeless or in crisis. The centre offers a food bank facility, housing drop-ins, sign-posting to local services, nightly outreach to those on the streets, and is open six hours a day for late breakfast, snacks, drinks, a running buffet and a hot evening meal. It also welcomes people who feel isolated or are experiencing difficulties. Due to an increase in the need for its service, PATH Torbay will shortly be moving to larger premises and, if chosen as the Community Fund winner, it will use the donation to make much needed decorative improvements to the new site.

West Cornwall Women's Aid

West Cornwall Women's Aid supports women and children who have fled their homes due to domestic violence and has helped many women safely rebuild their lives. It has been running refuge provision in its current premises since 1992. The charity has eleven bedrooms/flat lets, two communal lounges, a playroom and a teenagers' 'chill out' room which they need to keep in good decorative order. If voted as the Community Fund winner, the charity will use the donation to ensure all spaces are welcoming and aesthetically pleasing, which helps the women and families it supports to feel safe and valued.

The public can vote for who they would like to receive the £1,000 worth of decorating supplies by one of three ways:

  • By visiting RGB's Crediton, Torquay or Penzance branches and placing a chip in the relevant box
  • By visiting RGB's Facebook page and choosing who they would like to vote for on the poll that will be at the top of the page when voting goes live
  • By emailing and putting the name of the group they would like to win in the subject box

Votes can be cast between Monday 16th September and 8am on Monday 30th September. Votes cast outside of these dates will not be counted and can only be made at a branch during normal opening hours. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted.

We wish all three finalists the very best of luck.
