As part of our Well Built Community Fund programme, we recently called out to groups, schools and charities to tell us how a donation of £1,000 worth of building materials would help to create an environmental space. All the entries have been whittled down to the final three and it's now down to the public to decide who receives £1,000 worth of building materials.
Cornwall Wildlife Trust
As part of the charity's junior educational programme, Cornwall Wildlife Trust would like to introduce a children's Wildlife Gardening Club at its Five Acres Nature Reserve in Allet. It would give an opportunity for children to learn about the natural world and grow their own produce. The charity would like building materials to help ensure the area is suitable by erecting fencing, a potting area, storage shed, and more.
Court Fields Community Preschool
The preschool is committee-run for children aged between two and school age and aims to spread happiness in the early years community. It will shortly be moving to Wellington Youth Centre and would like to install a garden and nature area with fruit trees. If the preschool is voted as the Community Fund winner, it will use the materials to develop the area ensuring it is suitable for children's learning.
Yealm Ward at Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital
The Yealm Ward at the hospital specialises in the rehabilitation of those who have suffered a stroke and patients can be on the ward from anywhere between two and 12 weeks. The hospital would like to create a therapy garden for use by patients to aid their recovery, and as a welcoming outdoor area for families to spend time in. The donation would be used to build raised planting beds, create a wheelchair friendly walkway, install a pagoda, and much more.
The public can vote for who they would like to receive the £1,000 worth of building materials by one of three ways:
Votes can be cast between Monday 3rd December and 8am on Monday 17th December. Votes cast outside of these dates will not be counted and can only be made at a branch during normal opening hours. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted.
We wish all three finalists the very best of luck.
