As part of our Surprise Supplies initiative, we recently invited businesses that had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to get in touch and tell us how a donation of £1,000 worth of building materials would be of help to them. All the entries have been whittled down to a final four and it’s now down to the public to decide which two receive £1,000 each.

Gourmet Leaves, Crediton

Gourmet Leaves is a small, family-run hydroponic farm and vineyard that grows lettuce and other vegetables. After losing 90% of their customer base due to the pandemic, they ensured nothing went to waste by creating home delivery salad bags and donating produce. They have plans to convert a barn to run training courses, as well as to rent out to local instructors so people can learn a new skill. The £1,000 worth of building materials would be used to purchase the necessary materials.

Lanivet Community Centre, Bodmin

Lanivet Community Centre serves a wide range of people in the Bodmin area and offers a host of activities for all ages, backgrounds and interests. The centre is aiming to build an extension to house a coffee shop for use by communities throughout the region. If voted as a winner, it will use the £1,000 to help with the build.

Manor House & Ashbury Hotels, Okehampton

Manor House & Ashbury Hotels are well-established in the local area and offer a wide range of sport, craft, leisure and spa facilities. They have been trying to renovate some of the rooms to upgrade the accommodation, and if voted as a winner, will use the £1,000 to purchase supplies.

The Pine Centre, Bideford

The Pine Centre is a small family-run business that sells furniture and kitchens; it manufactures a large proportion of the furniture. It would like to build a new display kitchen for the showroom which would feature freestanding units to add to its range, as well as paint the showroom to give it a fresh look. If voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, The Pine Centre will use the £1,000 to purchase the necessary materials.

The two finalists that gain the most votes will receive £1,000 each to spend at their local RGB branch. Votes can be made in one of two ways:

  • By visiting RGB’s Facebook page and liking the photo in the Surprise Supplies album that represents the group they would like to see win; the album will be pinned to the top of the page.
  • By emailing RGB@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the group they would like to win in the subject box

Votes can be cast between Monday 14th June and 8am on Monday 28th June 2021. Votes cast outside of these dates will not be counted. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted.

We wish all finalists the very best of luck.
